Introduction: Installing Subwoofers in a Car
In this instructable, I will show you the whole process of installing an amplified subwoofer into a car. This is the most affordable way to install an amp and subwoofer to your car or truck. Connect the 3 foot, 10 gauge wire to the one marked do not connect it to the speaker negative: Make sure that all wires run neatly to the amp to prevent a re-do. Answer this question Flag as Do not connect the wire to the battery yet. While you have the carpeting loose, run the 16 - 18 wire you need to hook up subs wire and the RCA cables from the trunk to as close to the back of the stereo head unit as possible, leave a little slack at both ends.
Step 1: Parts
I posted it at night, so I assume a lot of people didn't see it while it was on the first recent page. Strip the insulation off of the wire at the end where the battery is. If you're new to the impedance calculations, many amplifiers will have specific wiring diagrams in their manuals to assist. The remote wire is a simple 12v signal that the cd player outputs to tell the amplifier to turn on.
Then under the hood clamp the wire down to the battery. You want to get this wire to the trunk of the car. If you have a power antenna, you will have to splice into the blue wire for use with the amp too. Mount your amp off of the floor of your trunk so that if something leaks or spills, you do not have to replace it due to damage. DavidJ42 author Reply Be careful not to give yourself an electric shock because it is quite painful. If the box has its own connectors on the outside, make sure they are wired to the speaker inside.
